Further to the post by Jeremy, we were greatful to his intervention to ensure Jason Lobo was selected in 1986. With little opposition Jason ran close to the qualifying time with a solo effort. Weeks earlier he had run a UK age 15 best some 16 seconds inside the qualifying time so why there was a doubt over his selection remains a mystery. He got silver at the champs themselves. The same day I witnessed Aiden Walpole run a superb solo 3000m to qualify, but the officials claimed he had only run 6 & half laps. Clearly he hadnt & finally they admitted their error. Some might have thought teachers couldnt count to 7! Seems much hasnt changed and its a shame for those teachers & officials with more open minds

As a follow up to this thread from last year, I have heard that 48 invitations have been sent out this year. (although I know nothing more) I reckon this is an indication of a far more positive approach by the selectors. A quick count including all the very close ones from the Championship day only got me to just over 40. No doubt the true picture will emerge in the next few days as letters drop onto doormats.
