Well Done Danielle!
Seeing or hearing of a Preston Harrier doing well, no matter what age/sex, is inspirational! Be assured that your achievements drive others to attain higher standards for themselves & Preston Harriers.
Again well done!

I think that a congratulations is in order for all the athletes from Preston who competed at English schools not just the winners! Everyone did exceptionallly well and should all be proud of themselves whether they came 1st or 31st. This includes people such as Cameron, Harriet, Sophie, Hannah, Mica, Stephen, Sophie etc xx

yes congrats to all from preston who went to the english schools, including myself who came 4th in the javelin, but to represent your country is a massive achievement. not only to be selected, but to win in with the fastest time in the uk for the hurdles this year is outstanding!!!!!!! Dani has done something that alot of us would love to of done, so congratulations once again to Danielle Rooney ;D

As the headlines says WELL DONE DANIELLE ROONEY ON WINNING THE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOLS.......As the person who started this thread i was congratulating both Dani and Ben on their performances at the International Schools when representing England not at their performances at English Schools otherwise I would of included well wishes to all the athletes from Preston Harriers who were took part at English Schools.

If Emma J took the time to read the title of the post she would understand that the thread is congratulating someone on there personal achievement and the fact that they have had a fantastic season. It goes without saying that all people who took part deserve praise!!

i wasn't trying to take any praise away from danielle at all, all the title said was 'well done danielle rooney', so i thought i would also congratulate all the athletes, as they haven't been given a specific thread of their own. i don't see why this is a problem, i wasn't being funny about anything.

Obviously a fan. But I do hope that you know that sarcasm is the highest form of wit and the lowest form of knowledge and do you know the meaning of pragmatist? But then honestly what would a javelin thrower know about leg speed!! Lets keep this in perspective. Playing around with posts is fun but what doe it achieve. Dani Rooney is good now. Lets hope this continues. Her hurdling technique is excellent. but leg speed, at the moment, is not one of her attributes. Probably with the right coaching it could be. There are so many factors to take into consideration with any young athlete. Chronological age, biological age. etc As you get older the people that matter dont care what you do as u15/u17 etc. its all about what you are capable of achieving. Let’s hope that when as she progresses and goes onto university she finds a coach that can help her fulfil her potential. Maybe we don’t do the best by our young athletes. Are we helping them by publicly heaping expectations on them? Surely they expect enough from themselves without the help of the press and the web. I think that young potential should be nurtured quietly and slowly and not pressurised to live up to other peoples expectations. Every one matures at a different time. Do we not owe it to our up an coming athletes to allow them to do this naturally without undue pressure be it from club, coaches, parents, friends, neighbours. By all means be very proud of them but surely, we as adults, should do this by keeping their feet planted well and truly on the ground

Is there something wrong in congratulating winners. seems to have got some people going. You might be a fan but you dont know her. She is a very level headed girl who would like to progress into a top hurdler. If she decides to do something else in the future its her choice and we will still be proud of her , thanks for your little imput. take it your not impressed with her coach as you think she has no speed .

Wow Pragmatist eh! I sincerely hope that Pragmatist is not a coach although I fear he/she is. You don't win anything with a solely pragmatic outlook you become a donkey at everything you do. Pragmatism is OK in small doses but achievers are people who have the will to higher the hurdle (pun intended) whether that be in sport, Academia or intellect I can think of quite a few people who are competing athletes who would like to have Dani's leg speed. Let young people have dreams and aspirations that are realistic but not day dreams. To get to the top you have to work hard you are not 'born with talent' that will solely make you the best at anything. I must not go on but suffice to say that if you are a coach I would suggest you take an early retirement package. Finally if you want to court controversy you should be able to put your name to your beliefs/ideas. Take the bouquets Dani and continue to work hard and as Pragmatist says lets hope you get a great coach at Uni. but hope it is not him/her. By the way your present coach/s isn't doing to bad and I can't readily think of too many athletes who have left the club or their club coaches and done any better. Best wishes Pete Benson
