There appear to be quite a few of us doing this on Sunday and I note quite a number of women - including Helen. I bet it is because the organiser isnt a meany misogynist like Joe and rewards both a male and female bonus for breaking the course record! Anyhow with Philippa, Sarah, Marion and myself we have an old women's team and Halen has some of the new members more of her age so that she doesnt feel out ofher age range. Are there many from the mens side?

Well, since no men could be bothered to reply to my polite enquiry, I can understand your reluctance to make any further comment about yesterday's race. Still you were all beaten by a better woman on the day! I will post the report that I have written for the LEP. I can afford to be flippant because I'm old and decrepid so no comments about my own performance! Then again, anything would be an improvement!

Helen’s double victory
Preston Harrier and England No 1 1500 metre runner, the eponymous Helen made a rare appearance on the roads at the Ciltheroe 10k an event for which she holds the course record and came away not only as 1st lady but first Preston Harrier home. The windy conditions prevented any course records being broken, but a satisfying first ever win over her male training partners provided some consolation. In a time of 32.33, she was only 12 seconds outside, she was more than pleased. ‘I ran much more strongly than last year and although I was slower, the wind made it a much more difficult race’ she said.
In an exceptional field of 923 runners, Steve Smith finished 9 seconds behind Helen, but enjoyed a comfortable win in the men’s 45 category in 32.41. Other titles in the race went to the redoubtable husband and wife pairing of Kevin and Marion Hesketh who won the O50 titles in 36.16 and 42.22 respectively.
Other notable results and good performances came from juniors Rob and James Walsh who finished in 37.05 and 39.44, their results being sandwiched by their mother Philippa who was 2nd 45 in 39.33. The 3rd junior Mathew Wadsworth ran well to finish in 39.17.
Other results from the race were: SteveHallas 24th M 00:32:57 David Parkington 4th V40 00:34:34 Kevin Hesketh 00:36:16 Sunil Gohil 6th V35 00:37:27 David Watson 00:38:08 Philip Walsh 00:39:43 Alan Appleby 6th V55 00:40:48 Anne Sweeney 5th V45 00:40:50 David Holmes 00:41:15 Sarah Gohil 00:41:18 David Appleby 00:42:21 Vicki Cummings 00:46:41 Malcolm Richardson 00:49:06 Sue Wickham 01:06:02 Margaret Fyffe 01:12:33 Paul Hooper 00:44.23
Come on please respond - I know that this will be read!
