Rob I do not want run down the achievement of our club at sports hall and yes we should celebrate the win??? What i said was that because we achieved this, i would not expect the athletes to think that it will be as easy on the track over the next season.
The competion i was refering to0!! was not that in our club but those athletes in other clubs who for reasons of there own do not compete in sportshall. We may very well turn out our best athetes in all age groups, but do the other clubs, I think not? Their priorities tend to focus on other things. What will happen at Mid-lancs, County Champs, And Lancs Schools. Will our athetes achieve what has transpired in sportshall??
You Tell Me or are they going to come up against some exceptional good athletes from the other clubs that we did not see in sportshall???
You seem to have taken a personal slant on both what i said and what i mean. You did well to encourage all those young athletes in sportshall. you should be commended for award!! if that makes you feel that you have not wasted your time?? I am just looking at the wider picture. Vicky

I'm a little bit confused here Vicky as I have not responded to your previous comments. If you want to check the link to Power of 10 below you will find that some of the areas top athletes have taken part in the Sportshall competition this season. www.powerof10.info/Some of the more experienced Preston Harriers that took part in Sportshall are at or near the top of the rankings. Without doubt there will be other top athletes that did not compete who will provide different challenges. All of the athletes who took part will face different challenges as the age groups will change for the Summer season. The top age athletes will become bottom age and vice versa. The Sportshall team was made up of athletes from 7 different training groups, and I'm sure that the coaches of those groups will have realistic targets and expectations of their athletes for the forthcoming track season. Victory in Sportshall follows on from the success in qualifying for the YAL national finals and the x country successes this winter. I perceive the benefits of Sportshall to be: a great friendly introduction to competition; which will lead to more participation in opens and mid Lancs fixtures; which in turn will provide more information for YAL managers; which will continue to see Preston Harriers as one of the top junior clubs in the country.

Well i have read that of which you replied. All i can see is that you have answered again with reference to our club Preston and our top athletes!!! My question was not about them !! or how good our club is!!. It was regards other athletes outside our club? Of which you seem to be unaware of . Did the best athletes from other clubs turn out in the sports hall competitions or did they just field athletes to make teams??? I do think we get carried away with the importance of sportshall, ( club against club) Preston being the biggest club in Lancashire, when we are all aware that it is a great vehicle to encourage the younger athletes to participate in the rudimentaries of athletics win or lose . As you have no other input into my answer. I would just like to say thankyou. I will no doubt recieve my answer come the mid-lancs and county champs, and see those other athletes that did not compete in sportshall. Thankyou Vicky

Paul Brooke the Lancashire manager has just phoned to say the under 13 & 15 girls have now qualified for the national finals as the best placed second position teams in the regional qualifiers. He will be in touch shortly regarding transport arrangements etc. The Lancashire under 13 Boys narrowly miss out again being the second best of all the second best teams

As ever it seems people at the club can't wait to put a negative slant on achievements made by others.
As the saying goes, you can only beat what's put in front of you.
As Rob points out , that which has been achieved over the winter in Cross Country and Sports Hall has continued the success that the club had at all levels in all disciplines over the summer.
It has in my opinion not only maintained momentum, but has indeed gathered it.
People want to be part of successful clubs and if the results over the winter are anything to go by, I expect the clubs membership to go from strength to strength.
How many winters have we lost talented athletes by not keeping them involved.
I am positive that what has happened over the winter, will see increasing numbers of Juniors particularly in the under 13 age group's, competing in the Mid Lancs League this summer, a league that over the past few seasons has seen the participation of our younger athletes decline.
The under 11's and under 13's are the future of the club, whatever their abilities.
I would hazard a guess that this season will be the first one where we will be able to field full teams in the under 13 age groups, in The Young Athletes League from the outset, due to the hard work put in by many people over the winter.
A strong winters turnout, whatever the competition and whatever the results bodes well for a successful summer.

Do any of the Birmingham bound sportshallers fancy doing a diary of their day for the Harrier magazine ?

In anwere to mr P Crook Yes that is your opinion. Again you have answered your veiws about our club (Which i entirely believe is the best around). when the original question was about the lack of other proficient athletes from other clubs? ? at sportshall and what has not been on show. I am glad that everybody can voice their opinion. people should not always read their presumed answer as being correct because This club does not revolve around 2 people !!! them that tend to always have a say on this notice board? . ;D ;D A big CONGRATULATIONS to the 14 Preston Harriers who represented Lancashire in the National finals yesterday. You were all a credit to the club. Even though the girls teams qualified as runners up they finished the comp with very good placings. The u15s coming 4th and the under 13s 5th. The boys u15s also performed well coming 9th overall. Individually there were two National bronze medals that fell to Harriers with Emily Lupton picking up hers for a 9.75m shot put & Lauren Malcharek hers for a 1.44m clearance in high jump. Follow the link below for the full results. www.sportshall.org/VTL/Results_UK_Champs_2009.aspxI can't imagine there will be anything further on the Sportshall front until next season. I hope you have all enjoyed this season as much as I have and once again thank all athletes, coaches, officials and parents for their support.

oh no ,tin hat time .while we await vickys??? response well done all Mackers,I see you are also questioning who vicky? ?!!!!!! is. I also struggle to see why a member of this club would try & demoralise all these young athletes who have pulled together, all of whom deserve to be recognised for their fantastic achievement. Well done all. Enjoy the Summer season.

Whether it be Sportshall, Mid Lancs, Lancs, Northern, National, or World Champs you can only beat the athletes who turn up. So other athletes don't have Sportshall as their priority. So what? This thread congratulates our Sportshall athletes. If anyone doesn't want to do that maybe they should start their own "Whine and Moan" thread.

As a coach at BWFAC and the clubs Sportshall coordinator, I can only offer my congratulations to Preston Harriers who, in my opinion won the Lancashire League fair and square and not as a result of any other team NOT having their best athletes out.
I can only speak for our club when I say we fielded our best available athletes who wanted to participate in the events. Therefore no hollow victory!!
We won it the last 2 years and never once were anyone else accused of not having their best athletes out, or us being lucky.
Yes it may be true we did not have certain athletes competing, but so what!! Who's to say they would have done any good anyway? That's their perogative, as it is in any other competition. Preston too had some athletes missing from the various events.
Who's going to take the Olympic Heptathlon Gold Medal off the winner just because Kluft wasn't there???
Although rivals, I have to concede that Preston are not only the better TEAM in Sportshall, but as mentioned earlier, they also qualified for the YAL aux final last summer too. Were they up against the other clubs best athletes then??? I think so... Did they beat them?? Yes they did. So come on, rejoice in the win, (I would) encourage these kids, and keep giving them a chance to put Lancashire Champion on their CV's
Yes we want to win, but what gives me more pleasure is seeing the athletes mixing and enjoying the various events and competition. Between the various clubs this winter, we turned out in excess of 250 athletes from u11-15. A proud achievement indeed.
Sportshall gives a good grounding in athletics and gives the younger ones a focus during the winter period when the weather is bad. All of them enjoy it and look forward to it, regardless of who they're competing against, and I for one will never accept a victory as being hollow, but worked for and celebrated.
So once again, well done Preston but don't get too comfortable!!! Rob, we're after you!!!!!!
