I am looking for 14 male athletes, over 18, who have run 5K in 20 minutes or less. Ideally you will be running 25 miles per week, and will be available to run a 5K time trial on a treadmill on 3 separate occassions through the summer.
More details are given below.
If you can help, or know someone who will be able to help please let me know by email to sportsinjurymassage@btopenworld.com
Thank you
Brian Porter
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
The aim of this study is to examine the effects of sports therapy treatment on the endurance running performance.
WHAT IS INVOLVED IF I AGREE TO TAKE PART IN THE STUDY?
At the beginning you will perform a familiarisation session (if you are not used to running on a treadmill) to become used to the treadmill and a 10-minute warm up will precede the tests.
This test will be a 5-km time trial on a treadmill, which you will complete on three separate occasions, one week apart. Before each trial, you will receive either a 15-minute sports massage, 15 minutes of ultrasound, or no treatment. You will be able to control the speed that you run at yourself.
If you agree to participate in the study, you will be required to avoid strenuous exercise for 48 hours before each test day. You will also be asked to ensure you eat, drink and sleep well for the duration of the study. Nutrition and hydration guidelines will be provided. You will need to wear clothing and footwear suitable for running at a high intensity for 5 km. To be included in the study, you will be asked to declare that you are healthy and to confirm you can run 5 km in 20 minutes or less.
WHERE AND WHEN WILL THE STUDY TAKE PLACE?
All sessions will take place on the same treadmill at YMCA, Mythop Road, Lytham, Lancashire. My intention is the sessions will take place in the evenings and/or weekends to fit around your own commitments.
