Yes, narrowly beating Southport.
Considering the huge number of athletes missing, it was a good effort.

Thanks Peter...well done all Depending on the Big Match result it would be nice to say if only... on the Leeds result, which hopefully will provide inspiration to go one higher next year.

answer to R Morley I take it you have not assessed the points we will lose next year as some of the better athletes move out of the age group u/17?
So dont bank on the fact that it will get better unless you personally know something i dont, and also look at the other teams coming into the league next year, never mind the ones that are already here!!!!. It could be nip and tuck all year. I know it is not going to be easy. do you? Colin

Colin,
That seems a bit of a defeatists attitude, we have athletes every year who become too old to compete in the YAL. That should not stop us looking to the future and trying to make one of the top 4 positions next year or the year after even.
At the begining of this year it did not look like another top 5 finish for us, with the better athletes who left us last year, but we still managed it!
As far as being easy, it is never easy!

I am aware of how hard it will be to maintain the momentum of this year ! I am not a defeatist, i was answering a comment that is all!! just to point out that it is always best to keep your feet on the ground and support athletes in this division and hope we have the luck and fortune of a good base of athletes who may live up to or surpass those who will be vacating the team It is not a foregone conclusion that what happened this year , will happen next . Hi Colin,
If only...we had beaten Leeds...
I hope that everyone involved with the YAL will be inspired to go one better next season and get to the Auxiliary final. I don't think anybody is under any illusions that it is going to be easy, however that should not stop us aiming for that top 4 slot.
Every season will bring differing challenges with youngsters moving up age groups and indeed out of the competition altogether as you mention. Whilst I have only been at Preston a short while I have witnessed the excellent standard of coaching offered by Pete in the jumps, Paul in hurdles, Paul in shot, Bob in Javelin and Dave & Aiden with the juniors. I am also convinced that the standards are as high in other sessions I have not witnessed. I have seen a team spirit that is very high and a willingness of people to muck in for the cause. This environment allows young athletes to flourish, develop and become competitive.
Colin, with apologies I don't know who you are, if your child/children are still involved with YAL drop me a line at rob_morley@talktalk.net to discuss an idea I have that may assist the team managers next season.
