What a fantastic turnout of Harriers last night and congratulations to everyone who took part. While the men were never challenged, we are left waiting till the redoubtable Mr Croft has corrected the results of the womens placings. Hopefully the money I slipped him should secure a 1st place for us too. I cant think why Helen would choose to run in the World Championships when she could have been part of such a great team, running in Astley Park in such a competitive field - she didnt have to endure a false start like we did! It was great to see so many women from the 'Wed squad' run their socks off (they were warned that being sick did not excuse any slowing down) and there were some performances which look for the future. I have to say that I dont know what Bob Shepherd's on, but it's not beer, with the way he finished the race - I've never seen such an old man run up the hill! ;D

Yes I just want to echo Anne’s comments (except the part about Bob Shepherd’s speed ;D)
Well done to all who turned out last night I thought everyone did a fantastic job. We just need to be sure that we turn out in such force for the last one in order to win the overall prize.
Whilst I will not be going myself ;D I will be thinking of you all !!!

That's very gracious of you. Geo. You know my attitude is 'It's all about taking part' and my shrieks of complaints when the results announced on Wed night were actually about the lack of sandwiches - Sarah and her infant son were left to starve! However, it is really pleasing to see so many new faces and all ages have turned out for these races this year - I'm not far off retirement now, but feel I need to keep going until we have enough women. The last race will be exciting - I know that you have a few more potential runners so try and get them there.

Message from Chorley organiser, Mike Coppin:
'Congratulations to Adam Sutton and Caroline Betmead for lowering their own course records by 16secs and 8secs respectively to 24:20 and 29:32...Adam is clearly in danger of setting off the speed cameras on Southport Road if he continues at this speed. Also Peter Street has claimed a new junior record at 26:45 by a massive 33secs. Greg Seddon however failed by 19secs to wrest the vets record from Alex Rowe at 25:59. A pair of silver coloured earrings were found on the course and are still in my possession, so if any claimants (other than Mike Walsh!) please give me a ring on 01257.241451. Apologies to all for announcing incorrect results, particularly the ladies where I raised Blackpool's hopes incorrectly'

It was indeed a fine run by Peter.
Unfortunately Mike has revised his message:
'Congratulations to Adam Sutton and Caroline Betmead for lowering their own course records by 16secs and 8secs respectively to 24:20 and 29:32...Adam is clearly in danger of setting off the speed cameras on Southport Road if he continues at this speed. Also Tom Cunningham has claimed a new junior record at 26:10 by a massive 1.08. Greg Seddon however failed by 19secs to wrest the vets record from Alex Rowe at 25:59. A pair of silver coloured earrings were found on the course and are still in my possession, so if any claimants (other than Mike Walsh!) please give me a ring on 01257.241451. Apologies to all for announcing incorrect results, particularly the ladies where I raised Blackpool's hopes incorrectly'.
Something to aim for, Peter.

The cheek of it! The Interclub was my last run before Sedbergh Hills yesterday. It's 14 miles & 6000 feet of climbing. This is what I sent out earlier to the fell runners:- Alan Metcalf was seen at the start. Eddie & I were the only other members there. Eddie beat me easily. I have now retired from long distance fell running. After the race I met Roger McGough who was doing a gig at the Sedburgh School Hall as part of the Sedburgh Book Week. He asked me had I done the race & how did I feel. I was eating a big sardines on wholemeal sandwich & I told him in the vernacular that I was pretty tired, but that I'd been advised that Tuna Butties might do the trick! (Thanks to Sara Gohil Interclub last tuesday). He laughed! I was 3rd V60 in the Interclub (out of about 20) I was next to the last in Sedburgh Hills.
It's just 24 hours since the finish & my legs are stiffer than in my old days of marathon running. In Anne's terminology, this old man wasn't seen running up too many of the Sedburgh Hills. The Astley Park Hill in question can only questionably be called a hill!
