Thanks Mackers. Perfect timing! I was looking for photos that would give my American running friend an idea of what fell running is. Your links and the associated links on youtube will do the job perfectly. The alternatives to fell running over here are trail runs and adventure races. Trail runs can cover distances from a few miles ( Trail Trial 10K)to100 miles ( the Western States 100) or more. Photos and profile of the race here. A popular local adventure race is the Mount Hood Scramble. I haven't taken part but know from experience that the water in that river is veeerrrrryyyyy cold, even in the middle of summer.

mt hood scramble looks ace our rivers don't flow as fast and not as deep but are still cold.my pumps had frozen solid this was a weird race, up to the top and back down ;D i'm in there somewhere and here on hols in austria. we norms go snowboarding but went for a bike hol instead. some nice trails. fun to fly down on a bike.
