First off, this not an attack at all, but merely a reflection of what the weekend brought about.
I wanna kick this off with a big recognition to Andy Bibbly, for what he has done for the senior mens team is incredible. Pulling together a team for Harriers when athletes are hard to come by! Also to Hannah and Amy Lupton for their efforts in organising a womens senior team which again faced similar efforts. And how could I leave out Bob welfare! Every event he is a strong presence helping out the team.
And this is my reason for posting.. what is Preston Harriers ambition with the senior team in general?
Having been loyal to the club for way to long to remember, I have seen decent athletes leave for other clubs which is understandable for a higher claim (british leagues), but where is the talent coming through? I personally feel all focus is put in the the junior and YDL league teams. For the Senior team’s 3rd match in Derby we were in a great position to push forward with a good win or 2nd place for the match, which would keep us close to winning our 2nd title since 2012.
But unfortunately.. nobody turned up and we was left to a brave few nervous youngsters who had to fill spots in the team. I’m looking around at the other clubs on our level who really pushed hard to get a team out and it showed on the day. All of us gave everything on the day but without our best team of athletes to fill places, it was always going to be a struggle.
It’s hard when you give up your free time, bust your backside on the track and you get nothing back. I don’t know what can be done, I know no magic wand can be waved, but I just feel like voicing my frustrated outlook on it all. I want to win titles with Preston, we are a daymm good team and I want to be competitive in matches!! lil ol’preston mixing it up with City Of Manchester, who have serious strength in depth. Now that is something
I am proud to run for my club, my hometown! To give all I have and die on that track not just for me but my team mates. To wear our clubs vest which is steeped in such great tradition is a real honour and I just wish others would recognise this. Let’s remind people we are not just here to be ‘part of’ the league but to be real title contenders. A team of winners. Because I don’t want what happened to Blackburn harriers to happen to us, where nobody shows up because people can’t be bothered anymore and we drop out of the top division one.
If there is one video that lifts me is this.. a real team motivation and reflection on giving it your all when it counts;
